A Message From John August

Every day, frontline staff members make a commitment to their patients and to themselves that they will provide the best health care services this country can offer. In doing so, health care workers are exposed to a wide range of activities that pose a threat to their health and safety. Health care workers face physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and psychosocial risks in their workplaces.

As leaders of this organization, we want to make available to our staff members the resources and information that will help them break down barriers to eliminating workplace injuries and diseases.

As you know, frontline participation in the identification and elimination of hazards is a strong foundation of this work. This website provides useful information to unit-based teams and to management and labor leaders, enabling them to spread learning and establish a shared culture of safety in the workplace.

We cannot afford to cut corners when it comes to our health and safety. Labor, management and physicians have a shared responsibility to promote and maintain the highest degree of physical, mental and social well being of our employees.

An injury to one is an injury to all!

John August is the executive director of the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions.
